World

South Africa, in the early 1980s: Rut and her three sisters Liv, Fee and Emma live with their mother in a settlement in the outskirts of a big city. Their father died some years ago, their mother is a painter, who just barely manages to make ends meet. Due to their life situation they have more in common with many black people than with the white upper class. Nevertheless they are – just because of their skin color – socially above the blacks. Alva, who grew up in Europe, does not want to hand this conception of man on to her children. But those who declare solidarity to black people in South Africa while the time of Apartheid, quickly reach the borders of tolerance.
